Hansa beats "Lions" for first win of the season

Following their 3-1 reverse at the hands of Arminia Bielefeld on matchday one, Hansa Rostock will be glad to have recorded their first league win of the season as early as matchday two. Goals from Janicke and Bartels secured a 2-1 victory for the hosts, who just about earned the three points.

1860 wasteful
Rostock began the game the brighter of the two sides and deservedly took the lead through Tobias Janicke in the 8th minute. Kevin Schlitte found space on the left flank before delivering an inviting cross into the box. Janicke was first to react, beating Rukavina to the ball before finishing through the legs of Kiraly, who with hindsight should have done better.

Despite the hosts' early pressure, the visitors were soon level. Against the run of play, Kaiser cut inside from the right, feeding Benjamin Lauth (19') who calmly collected on the turn before smashing a driven effort into the bottom left corner. The goal seemed to knock the life out of Rostock, who from thereon in looked a shadow of the team which started the match with such vigour.

Joker in the pack
1860 then began to take advantage of their disorientated hosts' but failed to make the most of several first half chances. The second period was more of an even affair and although both sides fought tirelessly, there was nothing to seperate them. That was until the 72nd minute, however, when Hansa coach Andreas Zachhuber decided to introduce Germany U21 international Fin Bartels to the fray.

Within six minutes of coming on, the 22-year-old midfielder had made a strong claim for a starting berth in Hansa's next match. Picking up an ostensibly hopeful long ball forward, Bartels (78') showed excellent individual skill to nick the ball over the onrushing Ghvinianidze before finishing expertly past the hapless Kiraly.

Important victory
Bartel's substitute strike was enough for Rostock to secure the three points in their first home match of the season. A welcome return for coach Zachhuber, who will be anxious to avoid another relegation drama with as many points as possible from his opening few games. 1860, meanwhile, look set for another season of ups and downs, so consistency will be the order of the day from coach Ewald Lienen.
